30% ABV 500ml Nocino is a bittersweet liqueur made from green unripe walnuts. Soaked in alcohol, they slowly impart their unique flavour and colour and turn the spirit to rich dark brown, nearly black. A completely unique flavour but sits somewhere between dark chocolate and coffee. Nocino definitely benefits from ageing. This batch was made in June 2024, so a full year of maturation to help soften the tannins and give a delicious, rich, bittersweet drink. Traditionally Nocino is made in Northern Italy in the Emilia-Romagna region where it has been a staple for centuries. However the earliest known references to Nocino are made by the Romans. Interestingly the Roman texts credit its invention to the celtic tribes of Britain. Here it was used in pagan ceremonies to commune with the gods. We recommend it after a meal as a digestif, or its delicious on ice cream.
