Château Kirwan is a historic estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France, owned by the Schÿler family since the early 20th century. Renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques while promoting sustainability, the estate produces some of the finest Bordeaux wines, known for their rich complexity and elegance. With esteemed oenologist Michel Rolland consulting at the estate, Château Kirwan carefully selects the finest French oak barrels to mature their wines. These barrels contribute silky tannins and floral notes, complementing the deep, bold flavours of blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry found in their Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. In December 2023, Annandale filled these exceptional casks with peated new-make spirit, beginning an exciting maturation process. Over time, we anticipate the whisky will develop red fruit notes, light spice, and subtle smoke, perfectly balancing the influence of French oak with Annandale’s signature peated character. Château Kirwan casks offer a truly unique maturation profile, marrying the refined fruit depth of Bordeaux wines with the smoky, complex qualities of Annandale’s spirit, resulting in a whisky of remarkable character and balance.
