Côtes Rotie Red Wine Barrel

IPA

We present a rare opportunity to own red wine barrels from Côte-Rôtie, one of the most prestigious appellations in the Northern Rhône Valley. The name “Côte-Rôtie” translates to “Roasted Slope”, referring to the sun-drenched, terraced vineyards that can reach inclines of up to 60 degrees. Due to the steep slopes, all grapes must be hand-harvested, making the production of Côte-Rôtie wines an exceptional craft steeped in tradition. This distinguished wine is crafted from Syrah grapes, blended with up to 20% Viognier, a rare co-fermentation method that enhances the wine’s aromatic complexity and soft texture. After fermentation, the wine is matured in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, allowing the casks to absorb the deep red fruit and floral characteristics of the wine. Annandale is privileged to repurpose these rare casks, giving them a new life maturing our peated spirit. We anticipate a single malt with remarkable depth and balance, where notes of red and black fruits, subtle minerality, and earthy tones blend with hints of light spice and floral aromas. These barrels have been prefilled with peated spirit which we believe will be an excellent accompaniment to the earthy minerality of this casks seasoning. Côte-Rôtie casks offer a unique fusion of bold Rhône Valley flavours and refined Scottish whisky tradition, resulting in a rich, expressive single malt with a balance of fruit, spice, smoke, and elegance.
