Woodford Reserve “Double Oaked” Bourbon Barrel

Sour / Wild Ale

Woodford Reserve, dating back to 1812, is recognised as one of the oldest operating distilleries in the United States and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. Woodford Reserve uses a triple distillation process in traditional copper pot stills, imparting smoothness and complexity to their Bourbon. They also employ a sour mash process, which balances fermentation and helps develop their signature flavour. Woodford Reserve “Double Oaked” bourbon goes through a unique maturation process in two separate barrels. first maturation is in a standard virgin oak, charred bourbon cask before being transferred into a secondary, custom-toasted oak cask. This secondary cask undergoes a longer toasting period which caramelises more of the wood sugars within the staves, creating additional layers of soft, sweet oak character. The result is a wonderfully dark whisky, rich in extra hints of toffee, caramel, and hot treacle. These flavours complement the distinctive fresh fruit and green notes of Annandale’s new-make spirit. Woodford Reserve “Double Oaked” casks are one of Annandale’s preferred choices for maturation because their oak seasoning perfectly complements our spirit.
