INNER MOVES: A 4 week introductory course in Somatic Movement Practice

19:00–20:30
INNER MOVES: A 4 week introductory course in Somatic Movement Practice Inner Moves is a four-week introduction to Somatic Movement Education: a practical exploration of how we sense, support and organise ourselves through movement. Sessions: Wednesday 7th October| 19:00pm-20:30pm Wednesday 14th October| 19:00pm-20:30pm Wednesday 21st October | 19:00pm-20:30pm Wednesday 28th October | 19:00pm-20:30pm Using the everyday action of standing as our starting point, we will investigate how the body finds support, gathers itself, responds to gravity and prepares for movement. Rather than trying to achieve a particular posture or perfect a way of standing, we will slow things down and become interested in the process itself: how we move from lying to sitting, from sitting towards standing, and from standing into the many actions of everyday life. Through movement, sensing and experimentation, we will develop our ability to notice the smaller transitions within an action and discover new possibilities for support, movement and choice. No previous experience is necessary. The emphasis is on curiosity, experimentation and developing a more detailed awareness of your own body and movement. Suitable for beginners. No previous experience of Somatic Movement is needed. Instructions: Wear comfortable clothing, perhaps layers/socks as some work will take place on the floor. There are a number of mats and props available but many people prefer to bring their own. Bringing a notebook and pen can be useful to record your experience and remember any homework for the week!
